A Kingston man used a pipe and hammer in a beating that sent the victim to the hospital where he needed two surgeries to repair his injuries, according to an affidavit. Kingston police said Todd Michael Derhammer, 29, of First Avenue hit Donald Rodriguez over the head with what the victim believed to be a pipe on Aug. 22. The pipe to the head knocked Rodriguez to the floor the moment he walked through the door of an apartment building at 116 First Ave. Using a hammer, Derhammer hit him in the right eye and hand, then punched him several times in the body.
