W-B mayoral candidates take different approaches to campaigns

Democratic nominee Tony George, 63, a current city councilman, former police chief and retiring school resource officer at the Wilkes-Barre Area Career and Technical Center, dominated the battle to raise and spend the most campaign cash in the general election campaign for Wilkes-Barre mayor; whereas, Republican candidate Frank Sorick, 42, a realtor, president of the Wilkes-Barre City Taxpayers Association and former senior investigative journalist for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Independent Gazette, went in a different direction, waiving the expense account to mount a grass-roots campaign. One of the largest expenses for George was for advertising, which amounted to $1,579 with an additional $1,800 spent on media consultation.
