The Gleaner, one of Luzerne County's earliest newspapers, has a strong tie to the Back Mountain: Starting in 1812, it was printed on paper manufactured in the county's first paper mill, located in Kingston Township. "Brightest star in the industrial firmament of Hartsouf's Hollow, and a source of both pride and usefulness to the Wyoming Valley, was Henry Buckingham's paper mill," Ralph Hazletine wrote in "History of the Township of Kingston, 1769-1976."
