Dozens came to the Wilkes-Barre zoning board hearing Wednesday to raise concerns over developing the shuttered Sacred Heart of Jesus Church and the adjacent school into apartment buildings. Developer Hysni Syla, formerly of Philadelphia and now residing in Kingston, bought the former Wachovia Bank building at the same intersection for $285,000 last year to renovate into 10 apartments and wants to do the same at the North Main Street church sites, he said.
